Upper radius arm
Finished turret and radius arm box

The upper radius arm now comes into the space that was the
rear seat. New mounts are put onto a strong crossmember.

--------------------------------------------------------------

The radius arm boxes are sheeted over by making a frame
work of 1/2" box and skinning it. The turret for the coilover
is in the rear corner and the roll cage picks up on the mount.

Finished and painted rear interior
Modified rear inner arch viewed from in the boot

This picture shows the finished rear interior. The new raised
tunnel and crossmember are visible.

--------------------------------------------------------------

The inner arch used to be curved down to the arch lip. I cut
this out and took it straight across to the outer skin. This
allows the rear tyre to come right up.

New petrol tank in boot

The inner arch from below. I also had to remove part of the
door shut. The axle has about 270mm of movement, I
purchased the biggest Spax coilovers they sold. More
movement means softer springs and better traction.
-------------------------------------------------------------

A new petrol tank was fabricated and put into the boot. The
orginal was behind the inner arch by the outer panel, very
susceptable to damaage when I am bouncing the rear off
banks and trees.

Finished interior near side
Finished interior off side

The stripped out interior. The seats are fibreglass buckets
mounted as low as possible.
-------------------------------------------------------------

The door bars give protection from the side and also slightly
stiffen the shell. The cage is welded into the shell.

Racing at York Dragway
Drag strip timing slip

Racing at York Drag Way. Here I am getting the holeshot
on John Moscrop in his Westfield. He soon came past me.

--------------------------------------------------------------

This is a very impressive time for a 1000Kg car when lighter
Minors with the same power run 16.00 secs. I put the time
down to having very effective rear suspension.
--------------------------------------------------------------

In early 1993 I sold the Lada for £1400. Insurance was £400 per year and fuel consumption was under 20 mpg (the way I drove ! ). The
car was fast and great fun to drive, especially in the wet, when the back end could be stepped out and held and extreme angles very easily. It
was stable and safe but tended to under steer with the 165x13 tyres on the front, and the brakes overheated. After one scatter I arrived at
the finish with the discs glowing bright red ! We surprised many people in the local motor club ( Ilkley and District Motor Club, see links)
when we went past them at ***mph (edited to protect me !) in a "standard" Lada and disappeared into the distance.
