Front on car.
Testing front lights

Now that the front is on the car the lights can be wired. The test run will be at night so I will need all the lights.

-------------------------------------------------------------

The lights soon were wired and working. Being able to remove the doors from the car helps when working in our narrow garage.

Fitting windscreen
Out of garage for the first test run.

Fitting the windscreen was a job that required all of us. It was a tight fit. For the test run I wanted the car as legal as possible even though it would not have an MOT.
------------------------------------------------------------

Getting the car out of the garage for the test run. The car is so low that I have to use a jack to lift the car out of the garage. This requires the front body work to be removed.

Final checks for test run.
On The Test Run

The front was put back on the car and everything tested. The plan was to push the car down the road and start it up away from home. ( Remember it still had no exhaust system ). We did this but after starting the car I could not get it to move, so we towed it to some quiet roads away from any houses.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Andrew Booth towed me in his Minor to the quiet roads and I was able to drive the car for the first time. ( The reason it would not move before was because I did not know how the shift pattern went on the gear stick.) Everything worked and the car felt good. I did not have any head lights ( we had to remove the front to tow it. ) so had to follow Andrew quite closely.

Me and the Car.

Exhausts on the car.

We had time for a photo while on the test run. Its a good job no cars came along. I was very happy that after all the work the car runs.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I now had to get the car road worthy for its MOT. The exhaust system was made, using Super Trapp silencers. These are a compact design good at silencing but poor for flow. The exhaust sounded good.

Final preperations before York dragway.

Picture to the left--- We had been working hard to get the car ready for the final meeting at York Drag Way. This event was sponsored by Street Machine Magazine and they were offering £200 for the best car. I was quite sure that I would win, and I needed the money because I had borrowed £300 from Robin to finish the car. The car had been MOTed, when I eventually found a garage that would do it. Most were not interested because the car was a little different. This picture shows us doing final work on the morning of the event. A lot of friends had turned out to come along to the meeting and see the car run.
