Thick wall tubing and
3mm plate are used for the mounting. |
Internal gussets were
added. ( vertical plate below tube ) The 4 captives are for a bolt in crossmember. |

The engine bay panels
also require replacement. |

I cut out the tie plate.
This also enabled me to remove the top of the chassis rail. As the tie plate
normally sits on the chassis rust can form between the two. |
The new tie plate welded
in. I was also able to weld the tie plate onto the chassis rail. As standard
the cab just sits on the chassis and is held on with a few bolts. |

As I am intending to
use coilovers on the front, the mountings will have to be strong. This shows
3mm plate being welded to the end of the upper engine bay crossmember. The
plate in the lower left is a spreader for the new eye bolt mounting. Its no
good having a strong mounting in a weak chassis leg, so the forces must be
spread over a large area. |
The front tie bar mounting
is modified so I can use spherically jointed tie bars instead of the rubber
bushed standard items. The mountings are double shear. The tube goes right
through the chassis rail. |

The spherically jointed
tie bar with modified lower arms. The coil over mounts can be seen on top
of the lower arm. |
The engine bay is reinforced
in areas which I know to be weak. The top coilover mount is also gusseted
to the crossmember. |
