Making the bulkhead template


Finished bulkhead

The original bulkhead had been cut so I replaced it with a one piece item. Here I am making a template.

Engine hung in position


Start of the engine mount

The 1600cc engine hung in position. It is mounted as low as and far back as possible.

Engine mounts are easy. Two pieces of flat 3mm steel tacked together. They are then removed and gussets added and welding completed.

Gearbox crossmember

The engine mount in position for tacking. Notice the reinforcement at the back of the engine bay. This is a weak point on Minors and normally cracks, this van will not crack.

The gearbox crossmember uses a Ford Cortina engine mounting rubber. The carriers at each end weld to the chassis rails.

Rear floor cut out
Rear coilover in position

The rear floor was also rough so I cut it out. The crossmembers were also removed so I could get more axle movement. Its also easier to work on with no floor.

The rear suspension will be converted to 5 link and coilovers. As much axle movement as possible will be allowed as this means I can use softer springs so get better traction.

New rear crossmember

The Toyota axle with new chassis mounts. The radius arms are spherically jointed.

A new rear crossmember is tied into the rollcage and coilover mounts. The rear most crossmember is the petrol tank mounting.
